Day one of the KSSSA National Rugby 7s Championship being hosted at the Bull ring grounds, Kakamega county has served up a statement day for several teams who have stormed into the quarterfinals with 100% win records.
Among those who stole the show was Western region representatives St Peters Mumias, who played like men on a mission and made light work of both Alliance High School winning 34-0 and Anjego Secondary (
40-0, stamping their authority with back-to-back clean sheets.
Bwake Boys from Eastern who are the reigning national champions opened their campaign with a clinical 19-0 win over Lenana School before turning up the heat in their second fixture with a 40-0 demolition of Marsabit.
Koyonzo Secondary, were also unyielding as they edged out Anjego 10-7 in a cagey opener before tightening the screws in their second outing with a convincing 20-7 win over Alliance. Despite not blowing away their opponents.
Bungoma High School joined the unbeaten pack with emphatic performances, first brushing off Musingu 22-17 in a high-octane Western derby, then asserting dominance in their second fixture with a 43-0 rout over Gede.
These unbeaten teams are now firm favorites heading into the quarterfinals, but with the knockout rounds promising unpredictable twists, nothing is guaranteed.
