Former Kenya Cup side Mwamba RFC have named their squad to face Mean Machine during this weekends KRU championship match with Kenya 7s prospect Brian Mutugi and Eujine Ojiambo returns with Mutugi set to make his first start of the season in what promises to be a fiery KRU Championship encounter.
The black-and-white outfit head into the fixture buoyed by a solid 24-10 victory over Mombasa RFC last weekend, a result that underlined their growing momentum as the season gathers pace.
Mwamba will be keen to build on that performance as they chase their fifth win of the campaign, a target that would further cement their push at the top end of the table.
Mutugi’s inclusion in the starting XV is one of the notable highlights of the squad announcement. The center, who has been working his way back into match sharpness, is handed a starting role alongside Alexander Gachiri in midfield.
Fresh from scooping the Man of the Match accolade last weekend, Fly-half Gideon Makumi, who crossed the whitewash in the win over Mombasa, retains the number 10 jersey and will be tasked with directing play, while Ian Wamalwa captains the side from the second row. The back three has Joseph Odoyo, Shaquel Bosire and Eugene Ojiambo who returns straight after a high performance training camp with Kenya 7s team in South Africa.
Mean Machine, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back after a 21-12 loss to South Coast Pirates, making this clash crucial for both sides’ ambitions.
With form on their side and a settled squad, Mwamba will be confident of delivering another strong showing as they continue their hunt for return to Kenya cup.
