Former Kenya Harlequin fly half Amon Wamalwa has completed a move to Strathmore Leos rugby ahead of the 2025/26 Kenya Cup season.
Wamalwa was among the 17 players recently released by Quins after the club failed to honour its agreements following weeks of player boycotts. The playmaker featured for Apache during the just-concluded Safari 7s tournament and has now linked up with the university side as they prepare for the 2025 Floodies opener against Nondies on Saturday.
Speaking to Two5four Rugby, the soft-spoken Wamalwa expressed his excitement about the move, saying it was both a professional and personal milestone.
“It feels good to join Leos. I’m feeling excited and can’t wait to play for them. It’s a young squad and a good environment where anyone would love to be,” said Wamalwa.
“My aim is to help Strathmore get back to where they belong. I’m here to win trophies, a lot of trophies and also finish my studies, before I joined Homeboyz…I was to join Strath earlier, so again it’s a dream come true for me.”
He added: “You will see a better me in Strath. Working with Coach Foxxy Ojal is good, I’ve been with him at Rhinos and now here again. I know what he expects of me, and I’m going to deliver. So far, so good at Strath. I really like it here and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
The Leos are expected to name their matchday squad later this week, with Wamalwa in line for his debut this Saturday should he be selected for the Impala Floodies.
