Mwamba RFC captain Bruce Abinta was the hero of the day grabbing a brace capped with a composed and clinical performance to help the former Kenya cup side extend their winning streak in the KRU championship encounter against visitors Mombasa RFC with a 24-10 win at the Goan Institute.

The visitors had an early opportunity to settle nerves and draw first blood when Nick Mawira stepped up for a penalty, but the attempt sailed wide, handing Mwamba an early reprieve. Mombasa would, however, briefly take the lead moments later as Kevin Magembe slotted over a penalty to make it 0-3.

That score appeared to awaken the hosts.Mwamba responded with intent and physicality, turning territorial dominance into points. Captain Bruce Abinta was the first to cross the whitewash after sustained pressure, before Gideon Makush and Douglas Opani added two more tries as the home side wrestled control of proceedings. All three tries went unconverted, but Mwamba still carried a 17-03 advantage into the halftime break.

The momentum remained firmly with the hosts after the restart. Abinta completed his brace, slicing through the Mombasa defence to extend the lead, with Makush calmly adding the extras from the tee to push the score to 24-03 before Mombasa added a last minute try to end the match 24-10.
