KCB Sink an Inspiring Daystar Falcons to 4-Peat the Kabeberi 7s Title

KCB Rugby reaffirmed their status as the kings of the sevens circuit after brushing aside spirited varsity side Daystar Falcons 20-10 to lift their fourth consecutive Kabeberi 7s crown at the RFUEA Grounds. The Bankers, who came into the final chasing a return to the overall circuit title, wasted no time asserting control, punishing Daystar’s mistakes with clinical efficiency.

The opening exchanges were all KCB, as the experience of their playmakers dictated the tempo. Elvis Olukusi powered over for the first try after relentless pressure inside the Falcons’ 22.
Moments later, Vincent Onyala showed his class with a slicing run after scrum-half Samuel Asati sparked a quick attack, stretching the lead to 10-0.
Asati then turned scorer himself, sniping from close range to make it 15-0, before Olukusi completed his brace to leave the Bankers comfortably ahead 20-0 at halftime.

Daystar returned stronger in the second half. Kenya 7s flyer Patrick Odongo ignited hopes of a comeback with a trademark burst of pace on the left flank, racing in for their first points.
The Falcons later grabbed a second try, but it proved too little too late, as KCB’s discipline and physicality sealed a 25-10 win and yet another Kabeberi title for the Bankers.
The result carried greater significance for KCB beyond the trophy. It pushed them to the summit of the National Sevens Circuit log, meaning they now require only a quarterfinal finish at next weekend’s Dala 7s in Kisumu to reclaim the overall crown last won in 2023.
Interim head coach and former Shujaa skipper Andrew Amonde was delighted with the performance, noting the team’s sharp first-half display as the difference.
“We didn’t underestimate Daystar , they have been impressive during this leg but we controlled territory, executed better than we did in Embu, and that gave us the platform to win. The focus now shifts to Dala, where we want to finish the job,” he said.
Daystar Falcons’ remarkable run was one of the stories of the weekend. They reached their first-ever Cup final after stunning Menengai Oilers in the quarterfinals and producing a famous 12-10 upset over Strathmore Leos in the semis.
While the final proved a step too far, head coach Caleb Bosire was proud of his charges.
“The boys gave everything and showed character throughout. Our inexperience showed at the kick-offs, but reaching a Cup final against KCB is huge progress. The target now is to secure a top-six finish in Kisumu,” he said.

Elsewhere, Kabras RFC edged Strathmore 24-12 in the third-place playoff, while Mwamba Ladies clinched the women’s title after defeating Impala Roans 17-12 in extra time.
Mwamba’s Edith Naliaka finished as the circuit’s top try scorer with points leader with 125 points .

All eyes now turn to Kisumu, where the Dala 7s will bring down the curtain on the 2025 National Sevens Circuit. For KCB, it is a chance to crown their dominant campaign with the overall title, while for Daystar and other challengers, it represents one last opportunity to upset the pecking order and end the season on a high.
