Kabras Sugar underlined their title credentials on Day One of the 2025 Kabeberi 7s, brushing aside all opposition to storm into the quarterfinals with a flawless record.
The Sugarmen opened their campaign in ruthless fashion, demolishing Kisumu RFC 61-0 before sweeping aside Embu RFC 43-0 in round two. In their final pool clash, Kabras faced fellow giants Menengai Oilers in what was billed as the headline tie of the day. The Kakamega-based outfit rose to the occasion, outmuscling Oilers 28-0 to finish top of their group with a perfect defensive record not a single point conceded in three matches.
Their reward is a quarterfinal date with Catholic Monks, who impressed with a 29-10 win over Homeboyz and a gritty showing against Daystar Falcons. Kabras, however, will head into the clash as firm favorites given the dominance and discipline they displayed throughout the opening day.
While Kabras showcased their ruthless edge, Mombasa RFC provided the fairytale story of the day. The coastal side stunned Nakuru RFC 15-14 in their opening match and fought bravely through the group stages before sneaking into the quarterfinals for the first time this season. Their spirited displays have earned them a showdown against Strathmore Leos, one of the tournament’s most consistent performers. It marks a huge step forward for Mombasa as they continue their push to be counted among the big boys on the sevens circuit.
Elsewhere, defending National Sevens Circuit champions KCB maintained their high standards, cruising past Mean Machine 54-0 and MSC Rugby 31-0 before sealing their pool dominance with a 21-15 win over Nakuru. They now meet Mwamba RFC in the last eight.
Daystar Falcons also impressed, edging Homeboyz and MMUST before beating Catholic Monks 25-12. They will meet Menengai Oilers in what promises to be a thrilling quarterfinal clash.
