Rugby Championship: Springboks Target History, Wallabies Eye Revenge

The Rugby Championship heats up on Saturday with two blockbuster clashes: South Africa chasing a rare win at New Zealand’s Eden Park and Australia seeking redemption against Argentina in Townsville.

All Blacks Under Pressure

New Zealand sit top of the table by just one bonus point after two rounds, but Scott Robertson’s side is under fire following last month’s shock 29-23 loss to Argentina. The All Blacks haven’t lost at Eden Park since 1994, and inspirational No. 8 Ardie Savea will celebrate his 100th Test in the showdown with South Africa.

The Springboks, unbeaten in their last four Tests against New Zealand, can move top of the world rankings with a win or draw. Victory would also be their first in Auckland since 1937.

Wallabies vs Pumas: Redemption Match

In Townsville, the Wallabies face Argentina in a grudge match. Last year, the Pumas thrashed them 67-27 in Santa Fe, the heaviest defeat in Australian history.

Coach Joe Schmidt’s men have shown progress — including a shock 38-22 win over South Africa — and regain skipper Harry Wilson and fly-half Tom Lynagh, but lose lock Will Skelton.

Argentina, buoyed by their triumph over the All Blacks, will again look to Santiago Carreras to steer the attack in humid North Queensland conditions.

High Stakes

With all four teams locked on one win and one loss, Saturday’s results could reshape the Championship. The Springboks are chasing history, the All Blacks defending a fortress, and the Wallabies desperate for revenge.
