KRU Warns Clubs Against Fielding Unregistered Players in Sevens Circuit

The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has sounded the alarm over the rising cases of clubs fielding unregistered players in the ongoing National Sevens Circuit, a move the governing body says undermines the credibility of the competition.

In a circular dated August 27, 2025, KRU reminded affiliates that the practice goes against Regulation 14 and Clause 8 of the NSC tournament manual (sections d & e), stressing that strict compliance is non-negotiable.

“The use of unregistered players compromises the integrity of the National Sevens Circuit,” the Union said, warning clubs to immediately cease the practice or face severe consequences.

Among the sanctions outlined are disqualification from fixtures, deduction of points, and further disciplinary action at the Union’s discretion.

The Union also flagged several teams for breaching the rules by fielding players who are not officially tied to their clubs.

Makueni RFC were cited for featuring Gaspa Dolla (Kenya Prisons) and Rodney Wanyendo (Ngong Warriors), while MKU Nairobi had three flagged players: Peter Muinde (Kenya Prisons), Trivian “Rogers” Bodo (Stormers), and Joseph “Choix” Otieno (Strathmore Leos).

AP Warriors were found guilty of using Kelly Omar (Mwamba RFC) and Alvin Orido (Daystar Falcons). Embu RFC had the highest number of flagged cases, with Jeff Ojuok, Karl Omite, Houstone Omondi, and Davis Masinga Ooko all linked to JKUAT Cougars.

The notice serves as a warning shot to all participating clubs, with KRU reiterating that adherence to player registration rules is critical to maintaining the standards of the domestic game.
