Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) produced a spirited performance to edge Nakuru RFC 21-19 and storm into the Embu 7s Cup semifinals on Sunday at the Njukiiri Grounds, Embu county.
The students held their nerve in a tense quarterfinal clash against Wanyore, showing resilience in defense and sharp finishing to secure their last-four ticket for the first time this season.
Earlier, KCB Rugby overpowered Kabras Sugar 21-05 in a highly anticipated clash, sending the bankers into the semifinals with authority.
Strathmore Leos also booked their slot after dismissing Daystar Falcons 29-05, setting up a semifinal against with oilers.
In the final quarterfinal, Menengai Oilers battled from behind to overcome Kenya Harlequin 19-14.
Quins drew first blood for a 7-0 lead before Oilers responded immediately through Dan Kipchirchir, Philip Okeyo converted to level matters at 7-7. The Nakuru based side went ahead through a well-taken try by Brian Achacha. Replacement winger Khavoli added another try for Geofrey ominde led charges sealing the Oilers’ comeback win 19-14.
The semifinals will see MMUST face KCB, while Oilers take on Strathmore in a mouthwatering clash.
