Menengai Oilers and Kabras Sugar RFC kicked off their 2025 Prinsloo 7s campaigns on a high note opening round matches with victories at the Nakuru Athletic Club, setting the tone for what promises to be a thrilling weekend of rugby.
Oilers under the tutelage of former Kenya simba’s Halfback Geoffrey Ominde wasted no time in asserting their authority with a 24-05 win against newly promoted Zetech Oaks. Winger Dan Chirchir starred with a well-taken brace, while Alvin Khavoli and new recruit Philip Okeyo also crossed the whitewash. Fly-half Glacious Owino slotted the conversions to cap a confident start for the Nakuru-based outfit.
Meanwhile, Kabras Sugar RFC began their title chase campaign in similarly ruthless fashion, swatting aside Impala RFC 24-05. The Kakamega-based side looked sharp and clinical, with their trademark physicality on full display.
Elsewhere, Kenya Harlequin saw off Mombasa-based MSC Rugby 22-10, Nakuru RFC edged newcomers Stallions 12-7, and Strathmore Leos impressed with a 26-5 win over Daystar Falcons.
In other results, Nondescripts RFC beat Kisumu RFC 22-7, KCB Rugby were pushed but prevailed 17-10 over Catholic Monks, while Mwamba RFC pulled off a late 14-12 win over MMUST in one of the round’s tightest encounters.
