Driftwood 7s Confirmed Quarterfinal Match-Ups Set as Harlequins, Kabras, Shine in Mombasa

The 2025 Driftwood 7s Circuit roared into life on Saturday at Mombasa sports club with fans being treated to fast-paced action and big tackles as the tournament unveiled its quarterfinal line-up.

Defending overall champions Kenya Harlequins lived up to their billing, marching through Pool A unbeaten to seal a place in the quarters. They’ll now square off against a resurgent Nakuru RFC, setting up a clash rich in rivalry.

In Pool C, Kabras Sugar were at their dominant best, flexing their muscle with convincing wins,26-0 over Nakuru, 21-7 over Impala, and a 29-0 against CUEA. The sugar men will now take on MMUST, who squeezed through from a tightly contested group.

Strathmore Leos, another side that has shown consistency in recent years, topped Pool D and will meet Nondescripts RFC in what could be a tactical chess match on the flanks. Leos edged Menengai Oilers 14-5 in a crucial pool decider that determined the top slot.

Speaking of the Oilers, Geoffrey Ominde’s side had a mixed day. They started strong with a 19-0 win over Stallions, followed it up with a 19-12 victory over Kabarak University, but fell short against Strathmore in the last pool fixture. They now face a massive test in the quarters as they take on KCB RFC.
