The 2025 National Sevens Circuit has shaped up as a two-horse race between defending champions KCB Rugby and the Strathmore Leos. KCB are five time National Sevens Circuit champions, having won it in 2013,2014,2019 and 2023 while the Strathmore Leos only claim to the NSC dates back to 2009.

Between them, the two sides have featured in 75% of the five cup finals played so far, underlining their dominance in Kenya’s premier sevens competition. They occupy the top two slots on the log heading into the season finale at the Dala 7s in Kisumu City this weekend.

KCB Hold the Advantage

The bankers have been the most consistent side this season, reaching all five cup finals. They claimed victories at the Driftwood 7s, Christie 7s, and Kabeberi 7s, amassing a commanding 104 points to top the standings.

Their closest challengers, Strathmore Leos, lifted the Prinsloo 7s and Embu 7s titles. However, their semifinal slip at Kabeberi proved costly. Heading into that leg, only two points separated the teams (KCB 82, Strathmore 80). The Leos now sit on 95 points, nine adrift of the leaders.

Kisumu: The Final Decider

The title race now comes down to permutations. KCB are targeting 117 points, a tally that would guarantee them the overall crown regardless of whether Strathmore make it to the Dala 7s Cup Final.

Should the Leos go all the way and lift the title in Kisumu, KCB would still only need a fourth-place finish to end the season on 119 points, a total that would keep them safely ahead of their closest challengers.

One Hand on the Trophy

KCB head to Kisumu with one hand firmly on the 2025 National Sevens Circuit trophy. Strathmore Leos, however, will not go down without a fight, setting up a thrilling climax to the season at the Dala 7s.
